Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nelson Akafuah
Nelson Akafuah is an Associate Professor and Chair of the Fujio Cho Department of Engineering Technology at the University of Kentucky. He also serves as the director of the Institute of Research for Technology Development (IR4TD).
Nelson earned a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from the University of Kentucky in Lexington, Kentucky. He also holds an Executive MBA from the Jack Welch Management Institute at Strayer University, a master’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of New Orleans, and a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Science and Technology in Kumasi, Ghana.
Throughout his career, Nelson has held several technical and management positions. These include serving as a project engineer at KITE, an energy consulting firm in Kumasi, and as a mechanical engineer at General Electric Power Systems in Schenectady, New York. He has also been the Associate Director of IR4TD.
Nelson's research focuses on various aspects of paint processes for automotive original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and Tier One suppliers. He is dedicated to implementing systems and tools that enhance energy efficiency, improve overall performance, and increase operational quality and productivity through lean manufacturing principles.
Strong connections to family and community are vital to Nelson and his professional work. He is passionate about helping others achieve their dreams and is guided by a commitment to serving his students and helping them envision a possible future.
Datin Lorela Chia
Datin Lorela Chia is a respected strategist and ecosystem builder known for connecting policy, industry, and social impact through purposeful systems thinking. With over two decades of experience spanning trade facilitation, SME transformation, and sustainable industrial development, she brings structure and clarity to complex national and sectoral challenges.
Her work has long intersected with the machinery and engineering sectors —where she leads the design of transformation roadmaps, public–private programmes, and strategic frameworks that advance industry maturity, productivity, and ecosystem readiness.
Rooted in Malaysia and shaped by cross-border engagements in over 20 countries across five continents, she draws from decades of global marketing and B2B platform development — anchored by an early foundation in GR8 Dreams, a boutique firm that enabled trade and industry engagement across Asia and beyond. She brings a cosmopolitan perspective grounded in real-world industry experience, systems-level insight, and an understanding of technology’s role in enabling sustainable transformation.
Dr. Adhi Setyo Santoso
Dr. Adhi Setyo Santoso is a Vice Rector for Academics, Research, and Innovation at President University, a leading English-Speaking University recognized with Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) Top Universities - 5 Stars Rating. He is also an Associate Professor in Innovation Management, Entrepreneurship, and Digital Business who has extensive experience teaching and mentoring entrepreneurship and innovation-related courses across leading Indonesian institutions from Bachelor, Master, to PhD level. Adhi earned his doctoral degree in Strategic Management from the University of Indonesia and has international academic exposure through MBA programs at Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) and the University of Southern California, USA. Recognized as Indonesia’s Most Outstanding Lecturer in 2019, his work and publications explore disruptive business models, platforms, and digital entrepreneurship.
